About the workshop

“We human beings, you and I, are like the rest of the world, psychologically. You may have a differentcolour: darker, black, white, you may be short, tall, and so on, but inwardly psychologically we are likethe rest of mankind. We all suffer, we all go through agonies, we all go through great fears, uncertainties, confusion, we all are caught in this absurd religious nonsense. We are that. And can we see the totality ofthis, not as an idea, not as something longed for, but as a fact, as a burning, actual, daily fact?”

“To understand fear, we must examine not only physical fears but the vast network of psychological fears. Perhaps we can go into this. The question is: how does fear arise – what keeps it sustained, gives it duration, and is it possible to end it? Physical fears are fairly easy to understand. Physically one must survive and the tradition of thousands of years says ‘be careful’, memory says ‘be careful there is danger, act immediately’. But is this physical response to danger fear?”

“Surely you cannot make anger into ‘non-anger’. If you understand anger, that is, if you are aware of it fully, without condemnation, justification or identification, just aware that you are angry, that you are jealous, that you are greedy, that you are full of ill will, then you will see an extraordinary thing taking place; your anger or jealousy drops away. It drops away spontaneously.

“To have an insight into attachment, what does that mean? To see what attachment does; what is the nature of attachment; why attachment arises; what is the structure of attachment, and the responses and actions of attachment. To have an insight into all that you must look at attachment. Right?”

J. Krishnamurti

Although human beings have advanced tremendously technologically, they are still primitive psychologically and this is the cause of all human problems. The only solution for all our problems is to bring about psychological transformation within ourselves. But this is not possible without understanding our psychological nature. What are we psychologically? Why have we not changed? What are the various psychological factors which control more or less all our life? To understand our psychological nature and the various factors which make it up is the basic intent of this study workshop. Among all the factors fear, anger, jealousy and attachment will be explored in details. What is fear? Why do we live in fear? Why are human beings so violent? Why do we get angry? How does jealousy arise? How does attachment which is generally mistaken as love, distorts our life? Is it possible to live without any attachment? All these and many more questions will be explored in this workshop. The exploration will be based on Krishnamurti’s approach to all this and the possible ways to end these factors as pointed out by him. By the end of this workshop, the participants are expected to have fair understanding of what they are psychologically and be able to at least manage their psychological reactions if not be completely free of them as yet. Various selections fromKrishnamurti’s works relevant to the theme of this workshop will be provided as a reading material to each participant. Also links to the relevant videos of Krishnamurti will be provided. Each participant is expected to devote these two days fully to the study in order to benefit maximum from this workshop.
